sPACYcLOUd Going Hemp!

sPACYcLOUd's first hemp products are here! Whether you are a skateboarder, bicyclist, or worldly traveler, we got you covered!
As the premier plant fiber, True Hemp or Cannabis sativa has served mankind for thousands of years. This venerable fiber has always been valued for its strength and durability. Materials made from hemp have been discovered in tombs dating back to 8,000 B.C.E. Christopher Columbus sailed to America on ships rigged with hemp.
Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag from hemp. In fact, its combination of ruggedness and comfort were utilized by Levi Strauss as a lightweight duck canvas for the very first pair of jeans made in California.
Due to the porous nature of the fiber, hemp is more water absorbent, and will dye and retain its color better than any fabric including cotton. This porous nature allows hemp to "breathe," so that it is cool in warm weather. Furthermore, air which is trapped in the fibers is warmed by the body, making hemp garments naturally warm in cooler weather.
Hemp is an extremely fast growing crop, producing more fiber yield per acre than any other source. Hemp can produce 250% more fiber than cotton and 600% more fiber than flax using the same amount of land. The amount of land needed for obtaining equal yields of fiber place hemp at an advantage over other fibers.

Being an environmentally conscious company, we feel that using hemp fabric is the right move for us. It is well aligned with sPACYcLOUd philosophy.

Stay tuned for updates.

Just Kickin' It Sundays With Leaders from Afghanistan and Skateistan!

A group of leaders from Afghanistan is traveling under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in an effort to promote women’s athletics and fitness in the U.S. The visitors will be joining Skate Girls Tribe and sPACYcLOUd weekly "Just Kickin’ It Sundays" skateboard session at our local Rockville Skate Park @ 355 Martins Lane this Sunday, May 8th 5-7pm.

One of the visitors is a Program Officer for Skateistan, a non-profit organization in Afghanistan that works with boys and girls and promotes empowerment through skateboarding.

As a skateboarder and member of sPACYcLOUd, I will begin to tell you a bit about the reason this event is important to us at sPACYcLOUd.

The magic behind sPACYcLOUd, the reason we are what we are today, is Ms. Tati Kolina. She is very passionate about what we believe in and works every day to advocate for women, equality, peace, love, skating, and all the good stuff in the world. She was so inspired by Skateistan The Movie, that she created Skate Girls Tribe; sPACYcLOUd's female-empowered skateboarding team. Skate Girls Tribe invites girls all ages and skill levels to participate in various events and skate sessions together. She wanted to push her own version of the Skateistan model to every corner of the world and unite women and girls under skateboarding and other action sports. She was so inspired that to further advocate for the movie and what Skateistan stands for, she organized several movie screening events in the D.C. area. The screenings were quite a hit that several legends showed up including Patti McGee, Di Dootson Rose, and Bryan Ridgeway!

At our session this Sunday, we will hold a skating demonstration, craft project for children to celebrate Mother's Day, skate coaching for all levels and reiki share time. Everyone is welcome to come and share the good times with us.

Skateboarders Never Stop!

The winter weather hasn’t stopped Lily from hitting the Rockville skate park to try and improve her skills because as she says, “Skateboarders never stop!” Lily is a member of the Advanced Training Program at the Princess Mhoon Dance Institute where she dances 10 hours a week. She has some upcoming performances which we will keep you posted about. Be sure to come check her out and say hi.
In addition to training in ballet, jazz, tap, acrobatics, and hip hop.
She recently began training at The Lab DC in breakdancing. Lily is proud of her newest move, the baby freeze. Don’t forget to check the sPACYcLOUD website for when the new breakdancing beanie will be out. Lily is currently testing the prototype. When Lily isn’t dancing or skateboarding you can usually find her playing lacrosse which is her favorite sport.
Lily’s newest adventure is learning to play the piano. She is proud to show everyone that she can play Old McDonald! Lily is a tiny dynamo who has adopted sPACYcLOUD’s motto, “Follow Your Heart. Not Trends,” as her personal mantra.
Her "Can Do Anything Spirit" is a constant reminder that there isn’t anything that girls can’t or shouldn’t do. Rock on Lily!
