It was August perfect time to have an outdoor project with little disturbance. Most of Parisians are out of town for their summer vacation. August is kind of the best to be in Paris for that reason, empty of people and a lot less cars.

My friend Hydrane Lo and I knew each other from common friends in the skateboard community. We’ve connected back when I lived downtown Paris prior coming to NY. We both are into art: I’m a graphic designer, she’s an architect. We both create art on our spare time. Talking we found out we both have been wanting to paint that Jemmapes Skatepark downtown Paris 10.

Back in NY I got into what I didn’t know yet, a very serious injury. I wanted to enjoy street skating sessions prior coming back to my country but it was very painful. At home doctors told me to take a two years off from skateboarding for the recovery. I admit I have teared many times. My last skateboard session was in May at my friends skatepark, La Halle du Val d’Orge, in the suburbs of Paris. They had their annual remodeling for the World Cup Contest called Far N’High. I volunteered for the contest as a judge and also created art for a booth they allowed me. I was stoked about that redesign I couldn’t help it I tried to skate one more time but the pain in my arm was unbearable.

All that to say I needed something as an escape and luckily I have art. I have motivated my friend who was on vacation for a week that it was now or never. We parted to get the supplies and met up at night to start the process of giving a painted face lift to the skatepark.

It was such a great experience. We both went from paper straight to wall/urban space size. I usually paint on used skateboards, used glass bottles, small canvas or paper and she usually works on paper of various but still small size.

People would all of the sudden stop, compliment us and/or take photos. They were actually paying attention for once.

The skatepark became a piece of art not just a concrete spot full of tags. The guys from the basket ball court next door would bring us ice-creams and water.

The guys at the skatepark had to bare with us as they couldn’t skate. They stayed patient for the most time and respected what we were creating. When we finished they all went crazy like they had a new skatepark.

Stéphane Mercurio, French woman film director interviewed my friend and I. The skatepark is by a water canal called Canal Saint Martin. She was doing a documentation about what’s going on along the canal Saint Martin in August called “Les Parisiens d’août” (August Parisian). She edited 2 minutes short movies. She filmed the skatepark and others people that day too.

Team Rider of the Week: Matty!

Matty (or Maddie) is a 17 year old skateboarder from the DC/MD area. She has been riding with us since early 2016. Matty has been skating since age 5 and learning tricks since age 12. She participates in multiple extreme and independent sports including skateboarding, gymnastics, and horseback riding. 

She is accomplished in all those fields, placing 5th in her most recent skateboarding contest and even qualifying for the National Junior Olympics in gymnastics in 2011 and 2012.

                  

She also likes to sing, dance, and play several instruments. Matty is a major activist for women's rights, animal rights, and social and racial equality. She loves nature and animals, especially her rat Koji. 

Matty helps with planning events for sPACYcLOUd and Skate Girls Tribe. She has also been working as a skate instructor at Rockville Skate Camp. Matty is incredibly active in the local skate community.

She is always welcome to answer any questions about everything sPACYcLOUd!

Team Rider of the Week: Lexy!

Lexy! One of our most down and supportive team riders. Though Lexy is located in New York, miles and miles from sPACYcLOUd headquarters, she still manages to rep hard and spread our message states away. 

Lexy has a multitude of talents, including skateboarding, writing and performing her own original songs.  Lexy has been killing it; winning local skateboard competitions and a local Battle of the Bands by a landslide! With her Battle of the Bands victory, Lexy has been soaring to new heights. 

At only 14 years old, nothing can stop her. She was even offered a job writing music! As for skateboarding, most recently Lexy won $100 in cash and prizes at a contest at Manorhaven Skate Park. She will be even building a half pipe in her own backyard!

sPACYcLOUd sponsored Girls Only Street Jam competition took place at Wakefield skatepark on June 25th, 2016. This was the first ever GIRLS ONLY competition at Skate Fest and we are excited to see so many incredible female riders competing.

Skateboarding is a male-dominant culture but sPACYcLOUd is on the mission to change it.  We are proud to support all of our awesome ladies role models.

Our next Girls Only skateboard competition is on September 18th at Shred Fest 2016 at Rockville skatepark! Stay tuned for details.

Welcome To the Team, Pro Skateboarder Justyce Tabor!

We are very excited about Justyce Tabor​ joining our team! Justyce is a professional skateboarder from Washington. She was competing at Exposure Skate in 2015 and we fell in love with her right away. 

 Justyce got unique artistic style, down to earth personality, and go-getter attitude. She loves working with kids and recently launched her own skateboard clinic in state Washington. Justyce will be rep'n sPACYcLOUd on West Coast!

Nothing Can Stop sPACYcLOUd Rider Mia Charles!

 Mia Charles is a Maryland native. She has been skateboarding since she was very young.  Mia is involved in the local and worldwide skate community. She loves to skate and help others learn new tricks.

Mia loves to travel and is majoring in biology. She plans to become a medical examiner.

Mia is hard working, determined, passionate, and loving.

Mia has been supporting sPACYcLOUd from the very beginning. She has been part of our fashion shows, skate events, and more. She always brings her cheerful personality and good vibes.
