sPACYcLOUd and Friends Jam at Funk Parade

Maddie Launais

The highly-anticipated DC Funk Parade took place on May 7th in Washington DC. The event was designed to bring people together through music, dance, the visual arts, and to celebrate the musical heritage of the historic U Street district.
An estimated 70,000 attendees turned Washington DC into a giant Funky town and, of course, we could not miss the opportunity to get down and play that funky music!

sPACYcLOUd teamed up with local musicians Capps Music, a trio consisting of Andy Capps, RicSeasons, and Ruxton, in addition to 13 Ruble, Raptorstein, and Blaze One of Tribalistix Sound. The artists masterfully merged various genres of music into a smooth set with a funky little beat and everyone had an awesome time.
Thank you to all the dancers, artists, skateboarders, hula hoopers, family, and friends who joined us.

3rd annual Funk Parade was a huge success and we cant wait till the next year!

An Action-Packed sPACYcLOUd Weekend!

By: Maddie Launais
This Saturday, the sPACYcLOUd crew and friends have a busy weekend! Catch us at 14th & U St. in Washington, D.C. from 12 P.M. - 4 P.M. at the DC Department of Funk: Funk Parade! Join us for fashion, music, skating, hula hooping and fun.

Later in the day you will find us at Shaw Skate Park as we team up with the Kennedy Center and George Mason University School of Art in their Finding A Line Funk Parade Concert. The Kennedy Center has done so much for the skateboarding community, sPACYcLOUd, its members and affiliated teams.

sPACYcLOUd/Skate Girls Tribe and DC Wheels Charity Team rider Joe Falvella has a special role, seeing as two of his sponsors have worked closely with the Kennedy Center and its skating events in the past, he has been able to bring all that skating together over the years in collaboration with his teams, recruiting new members to both along the way. For even MORE music, skating, and fun on Saturday at one of D.C.'s most popular skateparks, come down to Shaw from 5-8 P.M.!

sPACYcLOUd To Join NY, NY’s ‘Mom and Pop Skateboard Shop’: Uncle Funky’s Boards

by Maddie Launais
sPACYcLOUd is thrilled to announce that we now have the honor of spreading the stoke to New York, New York’s own Uncle Funky’s Boards!
Uncle Funky’s is officially now a home to sPACYcLOUd’s product. With sPACYcLOUd’s unique style, it’s hard to imagine a fit as perfect as Uncle Funky’s, but lo and behold they share a love for vibrant colors, loud patterns, and skateboarding with a vintage twist.
This ‘mom and pop’ skate shop sells a variety of skateboards, longboards, and the like to New York City. Uncle Funky’s doesn’t discriminate when it comes to array of skate products. Their decks resemble pieces of art and collectors’ items, and they cater to every type of skaters’ needs. Uncle Funky’s even provides skate lessons and used board trade-ins to the people of NYC.
Now sPACYcLOUd has the pleasure of too serving Uncle Funky’s customers! Though sPACYcLOUd isn’t new to the New York skate and fashion scene (you can find us at Not Fade Away Trading Co. in Woodstock, NY!), we are excited to expand our scope to Uncle Funky’s Boards, as we share our values in self-expression in creativity. We hope you check out and appreciate sPACYcLOUd at Uncle Funky’s!

Dedicated to John B. Sebastian

John Benson Sebastian is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, harmonicist, and autoharpist. He is best known as a founder of the Lovin' Spoonful, a band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000; for his impromptu appearance at the Woodstock festival in 1969 and for his #1 hit in 1976, "Welcome Back".

Sebastian was born in 1944  in New York City and grew up in Italy and Greenwich Village. In the early 1960s, Sebastian developed an interest in blues music and in playing harmonica in a blues style.  Through his father's connections, he met and was influenced by blues musicians Sonny Terry and Lightnin' Hopkins. Sebastian became part of the folk and blues scene that was developing in Greenwich Village and later gave rise to folk rock.
In August 1969, Sebastian made a memorable, albeit unscheduled appearance at Woodstock. Sebastian's Woodstock set consisted of three songs from his recorded but not yet released John B. Sebastian album ("How Have You Been," "I Had a Dream," and "Rainbows All Over Your Blues") and two Lovin' Spoonful songs ("Darling Be Home Soon" and "Younger Generation," which he dedicated to a newborn baby at the festival).
Sebastian has continued to tour and play live, both solo and with a variety of backing bands. He frequently appeared with the J-Band, a jug band including Fritz Richmond from the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, jug band pioneer Yank Rachell, Jimmy Vivino, and Geoff Muldaur. Sebastian and the J-Band were featured in Chasin' Gus' Ghost (2007), a documentary about the roots and influence of jug band music.
sPACYcLOU is proud to design a dress dedicated to John B. Sebastian. The dress is custom printed using original photography from 1969 Woodstock festival. It has been licensed by Woodstock.

sPACYcLOUd dresses are made in USA.
